How Is Age Calculated from Birth Year?

The simplest way to calculate your age from your birth year is: Age = Current Year − Birth Year. So if you were born in 1990, your age in 2026 is 2026 − 1990 = 36 years old.

However, this only gives your age after your birthday has passed in the current year. If your birthday hasn't occurred yet in 2026, you are technically still 35 years old until that date arrives. This is why the table above shows both figures.

The Western age system starts at zero at birth and adds one year on each birthday. This is the standard used in most countries for legal, medical, and official purposes worldwide.
